Gareth Tidball (Desdemona, ensemble)
Our most recent rehearsal has led me to thinking about the use of space in our show. How can we best utilize a play set in the round? How can we portray that our Iago is spinning a web in the center of the stage to ensnare his enemies? These concerns, as Sarah so aptly pointed out, can only be solved by the actors committing to physical specificity. Mouna and I recently rehearsed Othello and Desdemona’s final scene of the play by really imagining we had both been trapped in a spider’s web in the middle of the stage. There was little breathing room between us, and no way to escape. This made for a scene that was compelling and full of visual suspense.
